Euphrasia

Sphere of action 

  • mucus members especially of eye and upper respiratory tract.




Guiding symptoms + keynotes 

  1. A/F : bad effects from fall, contusion or mechanical injuries of external parts (arn), or may be due to prolonged sudden exposure of eyes (especially to south winds). 
  2. Catarrhal affections of mucus membrane especially of eye and upper respiratory tract. 
  3. Profuse acrid lachrymation with profuse bland coryza (rev of alli.C.). 
  4. Eyes water all the time and are agglutinated in the morning. 
  5. Margins of lids, red swollen, burning. 
  6. Cough only in day time (fer.Met., staphy.) 
  7. Menses now lasting only one day, one hour.

Eyes

  • Same points as number 1 to 5 in guidings. 
  • Character of discharge : acrid and thick (merc- acrid and thin), sticky mucus some times. 
  • Little blisters at cornea, due to inflammatory changes. 
  • Discharge is caused by inflammatory changes in conjunctiva of the eyes. (so we can write the inflammatory changes of eyes if the inflammation is asked) 
  • Aggravation by warmth, exposure to south wind.

Respiratory 

  • A/F : exposure to south wind. 
  • Whooping cough only in day time with acrid lachrymation and copious expectoration. 
  • Time : only in day time. 
  • Character of cough : whooping cough. 
  • Character of sputa : profuse, offensive. 
  • Throat : when attempting to clear the throat, to remove the sputum, he gags / retches until he vomit the breakfast just eaten. 
  • Aggravation in morning and daytime. 
  • Relieved by lying down. 

Menses

  • Amenorrhea or dysmenorrhoea with catarrhal symptoms of eye and nose, profuse acrid lachrymation. 
  • Time : late or may be regular. 
  • Quantity : very scanty. 
  • Character : painful. 
  • Flow : lasts only for 1 hour, 1 day.
