Introduction 

  • Asafoetida the name it self contains "foetid" though it has offensiveness well marked.
  • Its offensiveness is that much horrible that, it is commonly named as devil's dung.
  • Main action of asafoetida is on the stomach, which is present on left side, so we can remember its side affinity towards the left.

GIT

  • A/F : suppression of any kind of long standing discharges like expectoration, chronic diarrhoea, menstruation or perspiration.
  • Location : whole GIT mainly stomach and colon. 
  • Sensation : as if the peristaltic movements were reversed.
  • Distension of stomach leads to regurgitation of food, including eructation smelling like a garlic.
  • Offensiveness of the flatus, which is loud and expelled with great difficulty.
  • Modalities - aggravation : at night, during rest, warm application.
  • Amelioration : open air, pressure, motion.
  • Concomitants : hysteria, periosteal inflammation, ulcers and Carries of bones which is tender to touch.
